Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero [Series Finale]

Get yourself a mortal enemy like the Demon Lord. Does wonders for you.

Well, Level One Demon Lord and One Room Hero, has ended with the 12th episode and chances are it won’t be getting a second season considering that it only has four volumes out and we’ve covered the first three. So, while I won’t get to see two naked dudes killing each other in the public bath due to the Demon Lord being NTR’d in the eyes of one of them, I will cover my thoughts on how the anime ended.

Like I said a week ago, the story’s premise had caught my interest by chance. By all means, it was set up to be a comedy and it is. However, it touches on a lot of deep stuff that usually gets glossed over as you see someone powerful being brought low over time by public opinion, scheming politics, and life, in general, being a pain.

Max was a very relatable character, and for all the jokes you could make in that first episode about his living conditions and the “toy”, he really was in a really bad place. The contrast in how his life has improved from his home being neat and him having some friends over he can spend time with was a huge change. Comparing how he was being hounded in the second and third episodes to how he was being praised in the final for sticking his neck out now was a refreshing change of pace and it was something earned. Sure, it took performance-enhancing drugs candy to get him capable of going up against both of his former teammates, but things worked out.

And can I say that the relationship he has with the Demon Lord happens to be really sweet? I mean, look at how playful they were in the first part of the episode where the Demon Lord was poking at his stomach and how it jiggles. Yet a moment later they’re leaning into one another, Max grateful for the help while the Demon Lord had nothing but praise for seeing him rising back up to the person he used to be. Just a single moment of honest communication between the two of them, no BS that you would get from teen characters.

Fred’s situation was also a lot more perilous but worked out for the best. He even questioned if they would exploit Max and Yuria during the fight as they were doing to him, as he desperately wanted things to never get to that point and tried everything to stop it prior. He can’t be older than 30, but he still gave the impression that he was just about done with everything. Even so, he placed the good of the Kingdom over everything else and he was even prepared to be scapegoated if not for a certain demon being an idiot. Now maybe he’ll be high enough to actually get some change without needing to burn bridges.

Leo is just chill now that everything is settled. He and his followers aren’t losing their homes and are fine with being an autonomous district, so long as they can protect and hold onto everything they already have. He never had big dreams, he just wanted to make sure everything those who believed in him held dear would be safeguarded, and as the mayor of the new district, he can continue to do so as the council would rather keep him as an ally by not screwing him over… again.

Yuria finally made her appearance after giving birth to a healthy baby. The contrast between her in the past and her in the present is strong, but she seems to really have had the healthiest retirement. No pressure from serving big hats or carrying the weight of an entire nation, she only has to focus on a small loving family and occasionally looks out for her old friends. There was something exceedingly wholesome about her playing with her daughter in the end.

But who is her husband? He looks so plain, but this man managed to snag someone on par with the three guys we say devastating a plateau because they couldn’t agree on how to deal with things. The level of charisma he has to lock her down must be off-the-charts. Respect.

The ghost remained unexplained. Her pulling a Sadako on Fred was hilarious because we just saw this man nearly launch a small sun a few days ago. The fact that she’s jealous of Max getting attention but cheered him on while he was fighting means she’s a fan, but other than that we don’t know anything. Then again, speculation is always welcomed and the manga is technically still ongoing.

Overall, this series was really fun to watch and I genuinely hope that one day it gets a second season. But that is at least two years away if it ever happens. So I will just enjoy the quality anime we had instead and give it a strong recommendation to watch.
